Business owners in the market for retail or office space in the Short North can now turn to ShortNorth.org for property listings.

The website, which was relaunched July 16, currently features listings for 16 spaces at 14 locations within the one-mile stretch of shops, restaurants and galleries bordered by The Ohio State University to the north and downtown Columbus to the south. Available spaces range from a 270-square-foot office to a 2,921-square-foot retail space.

“We started posting [listings] a few months ago, but since we relaunched ShortNorth.org, we were able to give them a more prominent place for people to easily find it,” says Diesha Condon, senior director of the Short North Business Association, adding that the organization has also begun hanging photos of local celebrities in  the windows of vacant storefronts.

“The SNBA created the Shop Outside the Box campaign, the Special Improvement District worked with [Mayor Michael Coleman’s] office to assist in getting them printed in a large scale for the vacant windows,” she says.

The information about each listing varies, but they generally have the property’s address, which type of property it is, when it’s available, and who to contact, which might be the property’s owner or a development company representing the owner. Some listings also provide the price per foot and any “special features” the property has.

The listings are updated once a month.

“The SNBA receives many calls for people getting ready to open a new business and looking for space,” Condon says of the decision to add listings to ShortNorth.org.

“It is in the best interest of the visitors and the local businesses to fill any holes we have throughout the district,” she adds. “Visitors are always seeking new and interesting stores and galleries, and for the local businesses it’s great to have new neighbors to partner and collaborate with. With one of the highest occupancy rates in Columbus, The Short North is the place to open a new business or relocate an existing business.”

The organization hopes to continue attracting unique businesses, especially to fill out the north end of the district.

“With the completion of the Jackson on High, the old Goody Boy getting a makeover, the Garden Theatre being renovated by Short North Stage, and the new Short North Kroger, the north end has endless potential,” Condon says.
