Local Artists Called to Create Unique Gifts Representing Columbus

3302

Local artists will have a chance to show off their love for the city through Columbus-centric gifts to be sold at the Experience Columbus store in the Arena District.

Columbus City Councilmember Eileen Y. Paley, the Greater Columbus Arts Council and Experience Columbus are putting out a call to artists of any discipline who live or work in the city to submit proposals for their designs that show off Columbus. Councilmemeber Paley is after gifts and keepsakes that capture the creative energy of the city, while highlighting what makes Columbus special.

“Columbus is home to many gifted artists, and I want to make sure that they have the opportunity to share their talents with the world,” said Councilmember Paley. “The artists who are selected to participate in this program will make it possible for visitors to take a piece of Columbus wherever they go.”

Artists have until Dec. 5 at 5:00 p.m. to submit their proposals. In the spirit of taking Columbus wherever they go, gifts should be easily transportable by domestic or international travelers and fall in a suggested price range of $5 to $40. Examples of possible products include:

  • – Small photobooks
  • – Postcard sets
  • – Posters or large prints
  • – Lapel pins
  • – Key chains
  • – Paperweights

Up to five finalists will be selected by a committee comprised of respected arts and community leaders and additional information or proposal refinements may be requested. From this group up to two artist concepts will be selected to represent the city at the Experience Columbus store. Artists will receive a $1,000 stipend plus fees to secure a desired quantity of the proposed item.

“The arts are an important part of our city’s cultural image, so we’re excited to offer local pieces for sale in our visitors center,” said Brian Ross, President and CEO of Experience Columbus. “This collaboration with GCAC gives us the opportunity to support local artists and show off the creative spirit of Columbus.”
