    ODOD Offering Free Seminars for New Small Biz Owners

    A series of seminars intended to help strengthen and expand small business ownership will be offered in Columbus through September.

    The Small Business Development Series −sponsored by the Ohio Department of Development’s Entrepreneurship and Small Business Division, the Small Business Development Centers of Ohio, and the U.S. Small Business Administration− was created specifically to address the needs of aspiring entrepreneurs.

    “The knowledge and guidance shared within these small business development seminars help foster a thriving business climate for all entrepreneurs,” says Karen Shauri, state director of the SBDCs of Ohio. “Valuable assets and expertise will be shared, which will assist business owners as they start, grow, and sustain successful businesses.”

    During the seminars, which also will be held in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Mansfield, representatives from the SBDCs of Ohio and the U.S. SBA will give in-depth descriptions of small business programs and services that assist business owners.

    Additionally, the seminars will provide attendees with information about establishing a business, operating a business, loan programs, marketing, and procurement opportunities.

    All seminars will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. In Columbus, the seminars will take place at the Columbus Urban League, located at 788 Mt. Vernon Ave.

    The first seminar, titled “The Resource Network/Small Business Resource Partners,” was held in Columbus on Thursday. The second seminar, titled “Starting Right and Beyond/Legal, Accounting, Insurance,” is scheduled for May 12 in Columbus. (Dates vary by city.)

    The other seminars are:

    • • “Access to Capital/Building Banking Relationships” on June 9.
    • • “Credit Report & Credit Score/Improvement & Management” on July 14.
    • • “Small Business Marketing/Media and E-Commerce” on Aug. 11.
    • • “Small Business Procurement/Opportunities & Certifications” on Sept. 8.

    The seminars are free, but registration is required.
