ScaleUp Success: Stefanie Fox of Canvas Salon and Skin Bar

Many of us have admired the paintings and artwork of others, but have you ever considered yourself the canvas? At Canvas Salon and Skin Bar located at 3893 Powell Rd. in Powell, you are the canvas and they are your image artists.

Stefanie Fox, owner of Canvas Salon and Skin Bar, opened her salon in April 2013 with hopes to set new standards in the beauty industry. Since its inception, the salon has seen amazing growth. In 2015, the salon grew revenues 47 percent versus 2014 and was named the 2015 Business of the Year in Powell, Ohio.

“I launched Canvas as a salon that could run without me, allowing an opportunity to continue growing the business as the visionary,” says Fox.

Fox attributes her recent success to the insight she’s gained from her enrollment in Your Management Team’s Entrepreneur Exchange Program – a Small Business Administration (SBA) ScaleUp America initiative designed to help small businesses scale up and grow their business to have a greater economic impact, both locally and nationally.

“I really wanted the input of other entrepreneurs, which helped me realize I wasn’t alone on this journey,” says Fox. “This program has expanded my personal network, and helped me grow my business by increasing my self-awareness and connecting me to a great Columbus support system.”

Martin Golden, District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Columbus District Office, says that the 12-month ScaleUp America program is critical considering 92 percent of job growth comes from the expansion of existing small businesses.

“We are pleased to contribute to the growth and success of the small business community,” Golden says.

As far as setting new standards for the beauty industry, Fox is well on her way. She will be sharing her industry insights with the Lt. Governor’s office Common Sense Initiative team and will also be a keynote speaker at the 2016 Serious Business Conference, one of the most celebrated business education events in the beauty industry.
