Five business owners, three of which are Columbus-based enterprises, will pitch to a panel of judges this evening for a chance to become a semi-finalist in the SBA’s InnovateHER business challenge. The InnovateHER program provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to showcase products or services that have a measurable impact on the lives of women and families.
Central Ohio’s finalists include Jendell Duffner of Green Scoop Pet Waste Recycling. Green Scoop takes pet waste and turns it into valuable commodities like electricity and compost. Suzanne Trimmer of Secret Garden Bakery will present her muffins that offer hidden nutrition in every bite. Over half of the ingredients in each baked good are fruits and vegetables. Rounding out Columbus’ contestants is Candi Francisco of Speakeasy Bakery. Francisco’s creations pack a punch with booze-infused cakes and treats.
Also presenting are Canton-based The Blooming Yogini and Fort Mitchell, KY business Backseat Baby Alarm.
One semi-finalist will be chosen for submittal to the SBA for the national competition. Of the semi-finalists, 10 nationwide finalists will be selected to live pitch to a panel of expert judges during National Small Business Week, May 4-8, 2015, in Washington, D.C.
“As demands on women and families grow, the need for products, services, and technologies that address unique challenges increases – this challenge provides that platform for entrepreneurs,” says SBA Columbus District Director Martin Golden.
The event will be held at ECDI’s learning lab starting at 6:00 p.m. Click here for more information.
