It’s a varied month for Columbus Crowdfunding. A popular eatery looks to expand it’s reach, while a coffee shop hopes to help build community. Maybe all natural products are more your style. One local woman is making products with the motto of garden to skin. Finally, a multi-sensory studio aims to be a great play space for children with special needs. Keep reading to hear more about local owners’ big plans.
Community Grounds’ Indiegogo is up and running. The organizers are aiming to build a coffee shop and multi-purpose meeting place at the corner of Cline Street and Parsons Avenue on the South Side. Community Grounds is focused on keeping everything as local as possible – from the coffee to the food. Most importantly is the shop’s commitment to the community. Multi-purpose really means anything – from concerts, plays and film screenings, to educational workshops, cooking classes and activist meetings. A majority of the funds raised will go towards purchasing and renovating the building for Community Grounds.
Since popping up in April, Hot Chicken Takeover has become an Olde Towne East staple with sell-out crowds most Saturdays and Sundays. HCT will hit the road with a mobile trailer after their successfully-funded campaign. Founder Joe DeLoss will bring chicken to neighborhoods across Franklin and Delaware counties (while maintaining their OTE location), and a mobile unit also means opportunities to serve at special events and businesses. The mobile HCT unit will also mean more jobs. The outfit works with community partners to employ those who are highly motivated to work but have barriers to successful employment because of past issues.
Devera Naturals makes 100 percent natural, vegan, paraben-free skincare products. Founder Linda Joffe promotes “garden to skin,” striving to use the best natural ingredients to replenish the skin. Joffee started the line after chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer left her with dry patchy skin and not many beauty products to use because of harsh chemicals and parabens. Devera is sold at boutiques in hospitals across the U.S. but a successfully funded campaign will expand customer base and production, and introduce new products.
Hoot Studio is aiming to be Ohio’s first multi-sensory activity center specifically tailored for children with special needs. The space will feature a gym with a variety of therapeutic equipment, an art room, music room and quite room for breaks. One in 68 children are diagnosed with autism and often times traditional play spaces don’t address their specific needs. Hoot Studio will be an inviting space for these children and others with specially-tailored play needs. Much of the funding for the campaign will go towards equipment and the property.
