    Applications Open for SBA’s InnovateHER Challenge 2017

    Applications are now open for the Small Business Administration’s 2017 InnovateHER Challenge. The Columbus District Office of the SBA, ECDI and Rev1 Ventures are partnering on the program that seeks ideas for innovative products and services that impact and empower women’s lives.

    All are welcome to apply for the program by April 5 with business plans that meeting the following criteria:

    • Measurable impact on the lives of women and families
    • Have the potential for commercialization
    • Fill a need in the marketplace

    Judges will select five local business to pitch at an event at ECDI on May 3. The winner will be nominated to represent Central Ohio at the SBA’s national pitch competition. Ten national finalists will be selected to pitch for up to $70,000 in prizes at an event in Washington, D.C. on July 27.

    Applications open for The Inspired Entrepreneur Program

    The Women’s Small Business Accelerator is looking for its next group of small business owners for The Inspired Entrepreneur Program. The intensive, six-month educational opportunity includes hands-ons on classes and mentoring, help with business, marketing and sales plans, and additional resources.The program begins on Saturday, April 29 and runs every other Saturday through September 30. Cost is $1,500 with financing and scholarship options available.

    APTE Summit Returns to OSU on April 8

    The ninth annual Alleviating Poverty Through Entrepreneurship Summit will be held Saturday, April 8 at the Mershon Auditorium on Ohio State’s Campus. The event gathers social entrepreneurs from around the world to discuss using business principles to tackle poverty and social injustices. Free to a attend, a lineup of six speakers has been announced, including the Columbus Foundation’s Kelley Griesmer.

    Third Annual Rev1 Innovation Hop Slated for April 13

    More than 30 high-growth startups are ready to network at Rev1 Ventures’ Innovation Hop. The event provides attendees the chance to meet the minds behind many of the companies contributing to Columbus’ growing startup scene. Workforce development and inclusion partners will also be on hand including Smart Columbus, Bunker Labs, i.c. stars and Tech Elevator. The event will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 13 at Rev1 Ventures, 1275 Kinnear Rd.

    i.c.stars Hosts First Annual Technology Inclusion Summit

    Workforce development program i.c.stars is hosting the first annual Technology Inclusion Summit Thursday, April 27 at the Wells Barn, 1777 E. Broad St. The Summit’s theme, Moving from Diversity to Inclusion in a Technology Community, will bring together C-Level executives, IT professionals, recruiters and corporate partners. The first class of interns from the i.c.stars program will also be on hand for a review of their project.

    Tickets on Sale for First Making Midwest Fest

    A dream a few years in the making for Creator Matt Vojacek, Making Midwest will hold its first festival July 29-30 at the Garden Theater in Short North, 1187 N. High St. Tickets are $50 for the two-day creative gathering that will pull together experiences and creative processes from a wide span of disciplines. Detroit-born designer Aaron Draplin will headline the festival that also features a number of local creatives.
