Olde Towne East will get its first coworking space this fall. The Merchant will open at 1223 E. Main St. offering 7,300 square feet of shared workspace.

Spread across three floors of a historic 1903 brick building, The Merchant will offer a multitude of private offices, all unique in floor plan and architectural design, as well as a communal area that will accommodate shared workspaces and serve as event space. The plans also include three conference rooms and a 1,500 square foot outdoor courtyard.

Co-Founders Danielle Rohrbach and Melissa Dickson aim to maintain the building’s historic character. Over the years, the century-old structure once served as a grocery store, and most recently a convenience mart with upper floor residential units. The project received a historic tax credit in December of 2018.

The co-founders are trading the home office life for a shared, communal space that offers a professional work environment for entrepreneurs to corporate employees.

“My partner, Danielle, and I have been working out of our homes, both small businesses owners for several years,” Dickson says. “Our goal is to not only inspire people to get out of their homes, but to also challenge them to break out of their comfort zones — even if it is just for a few days a week. We hope that people feel the energy and welcoming spirit that we’re cultivating at The Merchant the moment they step through the front door.”
