Isabella Bonello, baker and owner of Three Bites Bakery, is in the process of outfitting a space to give her business a storefront.
Bonello has been raising money via a GoFundMe for a few months, hoping to reach her goal of $20,000.
“All of the money that I am raising through the GoFundMe will go towards the purchasing of all the essential equipment and tools I need to get the space up and running,” she says.
She is nearly there.
The store front she has in mind is located in the King-Lincoln Bronzeville neighborhood at 999 Mt. Vernon Avenue. The block is currently feeling a little run down, but Bonello is planning to bring her energy to bringing it back to life.
“It’s a really adorable space with a ton of potential to be the warm and inviting place I’ve been looking for,” she says.
Bonello has lived in the neighborhood for several years and is excited to be bringing her childhood passion to life here.
“I really have been baking since I was a kid,” she says. “I grew up helping my dad in the kitchen, and I just sort of gravitated towards baking. After I graduated from college, I started working in restaurants. I started in the front of house, then became a line cook. After a couple of years, I moved to pastry, and I never looked back.”
Bonello has been participating in popup markets at 700 Bryden and will continue to vend there until her store is ready, which will be later this summer. The ability to participate in that market and others has given her business the ability to grow to the next step and she is grateful for the support.
