The owners of HotcardsColumbus revealed on Thursday a rebranding effort and name change to Fireball Press. The new name for the Columbus printing business reflects a separation from their Cleveland-based parent company, which was sold to new owners in November last year.
“We decided to go a different direction,” said Kevin Grimm, co-owner of Fireball Press. “Our number one concern is that customers can get their products in the same amount of time that they’re used to with us.”
HotCardsColumbus was formed in 2003 when Grimm partnered up with Doug Holmes to bring their individual graphic design and printing businesses together under one roof. For the past ten years the company has operated as an independent local shop that utilized the Hotcards name without becoming a true franchise operation similar to how locations are setup in other Ohio cities.
In anticipation of the structural change, Fireball Press has added brand new full-production digital press equipment to their Columbus studio (printing was previously done in Cleveland) in December and is now able to offer same-day and next-day turnaround for short-run print jobs. The new equipment is also allowing them to introduce new paper stocks and coatings to their product offerings in the near future.
“When you can control your own destiny, it’s a huge leg up,” added Grimm. “If someone needs a digital job printed, we now have the power to make that happen quickly. If we’re under the thumb of someone else, we’re left making promises based on what someone else has promised us, and if they can’t come through on time it makes us look like idiots. We have an extremely strong desire to take care of the customers who have supported us all these years.”
Fireball Press is located at 27 East Fifth Avenue in The Short North.
