The Ohio Department of Development has extended the deadline for companies to apply to hire a tech intern.
Businesses now have until Friday, March 17, 2023.
“More students than expected have applied, and the program now needs more companies to take advantage of this opportunity,” said the statement.
The Ohio Third Frontier, a program in the Ohio Department of Development, will reimburse companies for two-thirds of an intern’s wages up to $7,500. Companies can hire up to four interns per round and be reimbursed up to $30,000.
“This is a great deal for businesses: They get the tech talent they need, and we pay most of the salary,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development in the release. “This program isn’t just for tech companies. A business on Main Street needs help with technology, and we have the students who can make a difference.”
Students are highly skilled and the program has placed 768 interns to date.
Companies must hire the intern as a W2 employee, and the minimum hourly wage offered must be $15. They also need to provide a meaningful internship experience, must have non-residential workspace, or provide a professional remote experience.
Internships for this round can occur between May 1 and Oct. 31. Another round will open later this year for internships that occur between Nov. 1, 2023, and April 30, 2024.
