SiteInSight helps local nonprofits get noticed online

As people rely more and more on the Internet for research, it is ever more critical for nonprofits to have functional websites that convey their messaging and can easily be updated. Potential donors expect nonprofit websites to have the latest information in language that’s easy to understand. Through its pro bono efforts, SiteInSight has helped several nonprofits establish a professional web presence.

site-insightSiteInSight is a web design and online communication company. Instead of focusing on technical specifics, it concentrates on communication to ensure clients’ messaging doesn’t get cluttered or complicated by codes, programs and software.

Additionally, the company strives to maintain ongoing relationships with clients by giving them full access to their hosting accounts and passwords. Doing so ensures that clients stay with the company because the relationship is valued, not because they have to in order to keep their website operational.

“Because our business is young and growing, we try to partner with nonprofits where there is potential for exposure for our brand,” says Alice Hohl, owner of SiteInSight. “Our giving encompasses service clubs, the environment, health, religious institutions, and civic groups.”

Hohl has long been a firm believer in giving back to the community. As an entrepreneur, she understands there is often a return on investment when helping a community organization.

The nonprofits SiteInSight assists are chosen on a case-by-case basis and as the company’s workload allows. Services are often provided at discount or in exchange for sponsorship. The company has worked with a variety of organizations, including Italian Festival of Columbus, Columbus Gives Back, The Leave No Child Inside Central Ohio Collaborative, United Nations Association of Columbus, and Northwest Kiwanis.

Columbus Gives Back worked with SiteInSight to refresh its website, which helped better promote volunteer opportunities it coordinates and promotes to young professionals. SiteInSight gave the website a fresh look with a new layout and template. It also created an interface to pull volunteer events posted on Eventbrite onto the Columbus Gives Back website to eliminate duplicate data entry.

“The amount of time the leadership needs to devote to the website in order to keep it fresh and current has been drastically reduced,” Hohl says. “We were able to install a number of tools that automatically update the website and this allows the website to maintain a professional look while having constantly updated and current information front and center.”

The Leave No Child Inside Central Ohio Collaborative came to SiteInSight in need of a website and email newsletter to advocate for free time and outdoor play for the benefit of kids’ physical and mental health. The company developed a WordPress website for the organization as well as an RSS-to-email newsletter to help spread the word.

“If the organization is able to learn via our training how to take what we’ve built and turn it into a seamless communications system on the web, we consider that a success,” Hohl says. “Northwest Kiwanis has been one of the most successful projects because they have been able to take what we built and keep it going with their own volunteer staff.”
