SocialVentures Introduces Validated Social Impact Seal

As social enterprises grow in popularity, consumers want to know that the organizations they support live up to their claims of integrating social impact into their business models. A new program will provide that validation for socially-conscious businesses in Central Ohio.

SocialVentures and Better Business Bureau of Central Ohio (BBB), in collaboration with Measurement Resources Company (MRC), are advancing a pilot program that will review, validate, and communicate the social impact created by local social enterprises.

Since launching in January of 2018, 13 organizations participating in the pilot group have successfully achieved validation and will now test market a new seal with consumers.

“This validation program is designed to connect social enterprises with consumers, advisors, and investors, and to demonstrate that their reported social impact is legitimate,” says Allen Proctor, president & CEO of SocialVentures.

Participating social enterprises will begin integrating the seal in their marketing, fundraising, and consumer outreach initiatives.

“Authenticity is so important to us,” says Kenny Sipes, founder of The Roosevelt Coffeehouse and Roosevelt Coffee Roasters. “We know from our end that we are accomplishing what we set out to do, but to have that work validated by an independent third party goes a long way to completely conveying our vision to the public and our customer base.”

  • The Roosevelt Coffeehouse
  • Square Seven Coffee
  • Transitions Commercial Cleaning

The pilot will continue through June of 2019 with plans to publicly launch the service to social enterprises and nonprofits in Central Ohio in the latter half of 2019.

The partnership with BBB leverages the organization’s expertise in managing large-scale business review and certification programs. Each business or organization validated through the program will also have their social impact statements featured on the BBB website, which also helps to advance their mission of helping consumers find businesses and charities they can trust.

The pilot program also utilizes MRC’s previously tested and implemented Social Impact Measurement Framework to use a focused set of metrics specifically selected to address the missions of social enterprises.
