ShareGrid, a service that allows filmmakers and photographers to safely rent out their equipment to local creators, is now live in Columbus.

Dubbed the “Airbnb of Camera Gear,” ShareGrid originally launched in Los Angeles in 2015. Since then the company has launched in several other cities, including New York City, San Francisco, Chicago and Atlanta.

With ShareGrid Columbus filmmakers and photographers will be able to make extra money off of their equipment, helping them make a living off of their investments while still focusing on their craft. Renting gear from ShareGrid is beneficial as well, since the service allows members to save 30 to 50 percent on rentals.

According to ShareGrid, some owners have earned over $100,000 a year renting out equipment. The service allows owners to see how much they could potentially earn with features like their “sliding calculator,” and gives peace of mind by providing instant insurance, bank-level fraud protection, and the tools necessary to make rental transactions a breeze.

In addition to equipment sharing, ShareGrid is also a social networking platform with a real focus on networking. Creators will be able to find jobs, make contacts, and learn about new opportunities in Columbus from the platform’s 50,000 members.

“I am passionate about ShareGrid because it democratizes production,” says ShareGrid CEO and Co-Founder Marius Ciocirlan. “People in Columbus can now afford to shoot on equipment that was out of reach before, while others are making a return on their equipment investments.”
