Easton Town Center Adds Two New Stores to Replace Recent Closures

Last week, representatives at Easton Town Center welcomed the addition of two new brands to the shopping center’s lineup: Gilly Hicks and Urban Outfitters.

Urban Outfitters is no stranger to the Columbus region, having operated a University District location adjacent to The Ohio State University since 1998. After 23 years of calling 1782 N. High St. home, the store has relocated to 4074 New Bond St #332 at Easton, the former site of New York & Co.

New York & Co. parent company RTW Retailwinds announced that it would be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2020 with plans to close most or all of their stores. A semi-hidden store locator page on the New York & Co. website still shows location addresses at Easton Town Center, Polaris Fashion Place and The Mall at Tuttle Crossing, but the store directories for all three of those shopping destinations no longer list NY&Co. as an active retailer.

Urban Outfitters is a Pennsylvania-based fashion and lifestyle retail chain with a demographic target of college-age shoppers 18 to 24. Leadership at Urban Outfitters announced in March 2020 that it would not be paying rent during the coronavirus pandemic as stores were forced closed around the world due to lockdown protocols in most countries.

Gilly Hicks has opened at 3992 Gramercy St. at Easton, formerly home to Skechers shoe store, which is now closed. Gilly Hicks is an underwear and loungewear brand owned and operated by New Albany-based Abercrombie & Fitch. Gilly Hicks previously operated standalone locations across the globe, but shuttered all its stores in 2013. The new store at Easton is currently Gilly Hicks’ only standalone shop, with the brand also being sold within Hollister stores (also operated by parent company A&F).
