Goodfellow’s Tonsorial Parlor Opens in The Brewery District

Dale Grinstead-Mayle moved to Columbus in 2002 and has spent the last 14 years discovering his passion while exploring the city. It turns out that his passion is cutting and styling hair, and after a lot of planning and prepping, he has officially opened Goodfellow’s Tonsorial Parlor — a new barber shop on South High Street.

“When I decided to be a barber three years ago, I was a landscape designer,” said Grinstead-Mayle. “I guess you can say I went from landscape designer to manscape designer.”

Goodfellow’s offers traditional barber services like haircuts, shaves and beard trims, but Grinstead-Mayle said that the historic environment is what takes the experience to the next level for customers.

“We are in an old house that was built in 1900, and the exposed brick and stained wood really lend itself to the vibe we have created,” he explained. “We want a space where people can come and hang out, even if they are not getting a cut. They relax can on the leather sofa in our waiting area and chat with their neighbor or enjoy the third floor lounge and play a game of pool and watch the game with friends. We can get you in and out quickly but we encourage our guests to take a break from the stresses of their hectic lives and enjoy some ‘me time’.”

When it came time to choose a location for his new business, Grinstead-Mayle wanted to keep it close to German Village, a neighborhood that he fell in love with during time he spent working nearby at The Sycamore.

“My husband Matt and I live in Merion Village and spend most of our time out in German Village,” he stated. “This neighborhood is a different beast from the rest surrounding Downtown… the people are friendly and inclusive, the bars and restaurants are a fantastic mix of neighbors and new faces, and the aesthetics are beautiful.”

In addition to barber services, Goodfellow’s also offers clients the ability to book the third floor lounge for private events, which Grinstead-Mayle expects to cater toward Groomsmen gatherings and Bachelor Parties where attendees can get haircuts and shaves while hanging out.

Goodfellow’s Tonsorial Parlor is located at 860 South High Street in The Brewery District.
