WSBA to offer education program for women entrepreneurs

The Women’s Small Business Accelerator is gearing up for its first comprehensive education program.

Called The Inspired, the 66-hour program is for women who have a business concept but haven’t launched, as well as women with businesses that have been in operation for up to 18 months. The program is slated to begin May 18.

“Women-owned businesses frequently lag behind male-owned businesses, in part due to lack of business acumen,” says Mary McCarthy, co-founder of the WSBA. “I have over 30 years experience as a business owner, and everything I have gathered through first hand experience and through consulting with thousands of business startups is distilled into this program.”

Participants will attend classes, including one monthly eight-hour class and three hours of conference calls each month, for a period of six months. The curriculum includes several assessments, credit consultations, and in-depth training and guidance on writing three plans: a business plan, a marketing plan, and a sales plan.

Participants also will gauge their target audiences, develop a full set of financials, and learn presentation skills that will help them prepare for presentations to prospective lenders and investors.

“Upon completion of this program, participants will be equipped with the plans and knowledge needed not only to launch their businesses, but also to confidently present their businesses to a variety of interested parties,” says Sharon DeLay, executive director of the WSBA.

The first five women who register for The Inspired will receive 10 percent off tuition.

Additionally, there are several need-based scholarships available to qualifying applicants. The tuition assistance and scholarships are possible thanks to the generosity of McCarthy and fellow women business owners Sandy Blanquera of Social Boomerang and Caroline Worley of Worley Law LLC.

The WSBA is located at 403-409 W. Main St. in Westerville.
